The Detroit Lions are changing up their defensive line.The franchise claimed linebacker/defensive end Armonty Bryant off waivers Tuesday after he was cut by Cleveland. The Lions also placed Wallace Gilberry, the teams No. 3 defensive end, on injured reserve with an abdominal injury.The?Cleveland Browns?released Bryant on Monday after he was reinstated from a four-game suspension to begin the 2016 season.Bryant, 26, had been suspended for violating the NFLs policy on performance-enhancing drugs. He is also being investigated by the league for a misdemeanor drug conviction stemming from a Christmas Eve arrest in which Adderall and Oxycodone were found in a car in which Bryant was a passenger.In July, Bryant pled guilty to a misdemeanor after originally being charged with a felony. He was sentenced to a $1,000 fine, a 180-day suspended jail sentence and 68 days of probation.A seventh-round pick in 2013, Bryant played in 31 games (four starts) in three seasons with the Browns, registering 8.5 sacks, 61 career tackles and two forced fumbles.Gilberry signed with Detroit as a free agent in the offseason and was a defensive end who played tackle in nickel/pass-rush situations. He appeared in all four games for Detroit this season and?averaged 30 snaps a game.Detroit has been thin at defensive end with Ezekiel Ansah out the past two weeks with an ankle injury.
